AC Shipments Fall, Heat Pumps RiseCombined U.S. factory shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps were down 1% in June versus the same period in 2007, but heat pump shipments rose by 8.5% for the period, according to the latest statistical news release from the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (www.ari.org). Year to date, combined shipments have declined 7.1% versus last year. Heat pump shipments are off 2.2% for the year. Residential electric water heater shipments for June jumped 14% over the same period one year ago. Residential gas water heater shipments climbed 16% in the period. Overall residential water heater sales are down 4% year over year. Shipments of commercial gas water heaters for the month also increased18% versus June 2007.
