Americans want the government to encourage energy production from alternative sources such as wind and solar while maintaining support for oil and gas energy, a new Gallup poll finds.
More than three-quarters of Americans say they support government financial support for alternate energy production. Two-thirds want to see the government continue to support oil and gas energy production at current or higher levels, reports Gallup.
Only 8% think the government should do less to develop alternative energy sources
13% say they want to continue the current support level.
39% say they want to see more support for traditional energy sources
28% favor maintaining the current support.
In general, Americans are concerned about the energy situation, Gallup states. Forty-two percent call it "very serious," which is down slightly from last year's annual environmental survey.
