HVAC Equipment Shipments Continue to Slide


Shipments of a number of types of HVAC equipment continued to fall in February, according to statistics from the Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI).

Residential electric water heater shipments for February dropped 11.2% from February 2008, while residential gas water heaters dropped 6.4% year-over-year. Year-to-date, electric water heater shipments were off 9.4% versus 2008. Residential gas water heater shipments were down 4% for the period.

Commercial gas water heaters in February declined 6.3% from February 2008. Commercial gas water heater shipments fell 16.6% year-over-year. Year-to-date versus 2008, commercial gas water heater shipments are running 11.2% and commercial electric water heater shipments are 12.2% down.
