Consumer Sentiment Hits Eight-Month High


February 14 — Consumer confidence early this month rose to its highest level in eight months, as charted by the Reuters/University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index.

This month's reading of 75.1 was up from 74.2 in January. The gain was attributed to an improving jobs picture and recent tax cuts, Reuters reported.

Consumers were more positive about current economic conditions—86.8, the highest level since January 2008—however expectations fell to 67.6 from a reading of 69.3 last month.
