Industry Groups Collaborate to Transform Construction Industry
> Industry News
Formation of a collaborative working group to address, "design and construction industry transformation issues," has been announced by the three industry organizations involved - the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) and the Construction Users Roundtable (CURT).
The unnamed, new group will seek solutions to problems caused by industry fragmentation, lack of clear communications across professions, and old business models, according to a joint announcement by the three industry organizations.
The groups have a history of working together. In the last two years, discussions among them have resulted in three publications and events focused on industry transformation:
The white paper entitled, "Collaboration, Integrated Information and the Project Life Cycle in Building Design, Construction and Operation,"
The white paper, "Optimizing the Construction Process: An implementation Strategy,"
The AIG/AGC Construction Industry Summit,
held in May of this year.
The working group will be jointly headed by equal representation from AIA, AGC and CURT and will concentrate its efforts on the need for new business models, insurance products and contracts as well as industry primers and "how-to" information, the group states. A formal action plan is expected to be released in September.
